My first ever jam doughnut!

How was half term? Ours was a pleasant mix of rest and visiting so pretty good! Needless to say, we had time to do some baking! We made Halloween cupcakes which were suitably scary! But we also wanted to try something new. I was having a look through our recipe books and nothing was inspiring me. That was until I was standing at the till in our local Tesco Express and there was a box of green doughnuts for Halloween. Obviously the children thought they looked great and that got me thinking - TLC had never had a jam doughnut and that was the inspiration I needed!

So we came home and I did some googling! Lot's of the recipes seemed overly complicated and I needed one which only used store cupboard ingredients so I landed on a Glutafin recipe. It looked pretty simple and after a small bit of mathematics to figure out how to substitute milk for the skimmed milk powder, we were away!!!

They were indeed simple to make and the smell in the house once they had been fried was fantastic. As a child, when we used to go away for our summer holiday, I was always allowed a bag of mini doughnuts as a treat on one night of the trip. As the smell of frying doughnut batter filled the house, it brought back all those memories! We made some ring doughnuts and some jam doughnuts. Both were surprisingly good for a first attempt!!

I may have sampled more than one and TLC absolutely loved hers! Daddy on the other hand didn't get home from work until later in the day and by the time he tried his I think it would be fair to say it was pretty awful!! :) But you know what, doughnuts never have a long shelf life and we achieved what we set out to achieve - The Little Coeliac has now tried a jam doughnut!

The moral of the story - eat doughnuts as soon as they are baked and don't work late!
